Our planet offers many places where one can discover majestic sand dunes. As a result, these dunes come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors, and often have features found nowhere else. Here are 5 of the most beautiful and unique dunefields in the world that you will want to add to your bucket-list.
1. Mesquite Flat Dunes, Death Valley National Park, California, USA
These beautiful golden sand dunes are located within the famous Death Valley National Park, which is the lowest and hottest area in North America. Once in the park, you can easily access the dunes from a parking lot off of Highway 190.
2. Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Brazil
This dunefield is like no other, thanks to the abundant rainfall between January and June that creates thousands of crystal clear lagoons. These natural pools warm up to temperatures reaching 87 degrees Fahrenheit, hence making it perfect to swim in.
3. Namib Desert, Nambia
Home to some of the tallest sand dunes in the world, Namib Desert reaches all the way to the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Helicopter rides therefore offer the ability to appreciate the immensity of these orange dunes that stretch far into the horizon.
4. White Sands National Monument, New Mexico, USA
Unlike any other, these sand dunes are immaculately white as they are composed of gysum crystals. For that reason, the sand is cool to the touch, allowing for barefoot walks. Located in New Mexico, this dunefield covers a vast area of 275 square miles. Make sure to check out our itinerary from when we went there: Discover The Land of Enchantment
